I hope you enjoy this and find it useful. As children get older, they often wonder how some of the content they learn in school will apply to their life. If you are unfamiliar with our Sing and Spell the Sight Word Songs, check out the video below! They are also extremely effective in getting young children started writing because the songs and movements help kids memorize the spellings of so many of the high frequency words used in their writing. We used the Wandering Word Wall for journaling when my kids were all spread out throughout the room and could not necessarily see the word wall from where they are seated. ![]() Tip: I collect my Wandering Word Walls that go in the children’s binders at the end of the year, so that I do not have to make them again the following year! I doubt that any of the parents would get them out for the children the following year again anyway. Then laminate it, and you’re done! I made two copies for each child, and put one three-hole punched copy into their binders so that they could have a word wall at home as well. ![]() To make a set, just download the word wall and glue it onto a file folder for each child. It’s like having a small spelling dictionary right there! Repeat this process with a few other words until the children understand how to use the word wall to help them find and spell words. If time is an issue, just have the children spell the word aloud, or write it in the air, or draw it on a friend’s back, etc.Ħ. ![]() Ask the children to write the word “see” on a paper or on marker boards, etc. Have the class sing the ABC song again as they point to the letters until they find the S words, and then look for the word “see.”ĥ. Tell the children to find and point to a word, such as the word “see.” Explain that the word will be in the box with (or underneath, etc.) the letter S, since it starts with an S sound.Ĥ. Point to each letter and sing the ABC song as you point.ģ. Show the children how the words are in alphabetical order. Pass out the Wandering Word Walls, or point out to the children the real word wall in your classroom.Ģ. To teach the children to use the Wandering Word Walls, or ANY word wall in your classroom:ġ. One word of caution, though: you will need to teach them how to use it and what it is, or it will just become a “tent” and a barrier to play with rather than a useful word wall as you intended! To download a copy of my Wandering Word Wall, click here. If you have been following my blog for several years, you may remember that I mentioned my Wandering Word Wall in a blog post before! But since it is such a great tool, I wanted to give it it’s “own” blog post. I think that kids tend to get more done when they stay in one spot and keep working without needing to get up and walk around, so the Wandering Word Wall solves that problem nicely! This makes them want to get up and walk around the room to check the spelling of a word, etc. ![]() Today I am going to explain how to teach kids to use a word wall, and about a really great writing tool that I like to use in my classroom called “The Wandering Word Wall.” “The Wandering Word Wall” is a small, portable word wall that you print and mount on a file folder so that children can take it with them and use in any area of the classroom.īut whether your word wall is large or small, if you don’t teach the children how to use it, you’ll probably find that it is just taking up valuable wall space in your classroom and that it serves little or no purpose!Ī portable word wall is a great tool to have, because often there are so many children in a classroom that they wind up trying to do writing assignments while sitting in desks that are a bit too far away from the real word wall, and so they can’t really see the words well enough to use it.

![]() Flavorwire’s “20 Dad-Rock Albums You Should Learn to Love” describes it as “music played by dads.” Another article last year reverts to a similar circularity: “What is dad rock? Picture your dad, in the car driving somewhere, loudly singing along to something and banging his hand on the steering wheel for extra emphasis. This is because the genre isn’t about specific musical conventions: it’s really about what kind of person the listener is. The term continues to be popular chiefly because it’s so malleable everything from Jackson Browne to Billy Joel to Pearl Jam to The National has found a spot under the dad rock umbrella. “Dad rock,” as a genre designation, has been around since the mid-’90s. As the intro to “Running on Empty” builds, or as Browne moves into his live cover of Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs’s “Stay,” the response arrives automatically, almost always with a little scorn: “This sounds like something my dad would listen to.” ![]() Usually, if I put on Jackson Browne when people are over, the conversation doesn’t drift to dysfunction or feminist cool or archness or chaos it turns to dads. Warren Zevon’s continued appeal resides in his hard living and baroque archness - the way his songs, even at their most desperate, face chaos with dark laughter. Didion, Nicks, and Ronstadt embody a resonant feminist cool. The allure of mid-’70s Fleetwood Mac stems partly from the band’s dysfunction and tumult. But while it’s easy to find young people willing to voice their love for Tusk or Excitable Boy, it’s harder to find similar levels of nostalgic revivalism for The Pretender or Lives in the Balance.I wonder how many people under 50 even know about Looking Into You: A Tribute to Jackson Browne,a double album of covers that came out quietly in April the fact that USA Today was streaming it hints perhaps at the record’s intended demographic. Through the ’70s and ’80s Jackson Browne was in Los Angeles with all these artists, collaborating with many of them. By now, ’70s Los Angeles has been extensively plundered and appropriated: Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, Joan Didion, Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon. Jackson Browne’s connection to ’70s Southern California - he went to high school in Fullerton and came of age as a songwriter in Laurel Canyon - would also seem to prime him for this kind of comeback. Maybe more importantly, they led to hipster reclamation, that strange process of cultural mining where artists once thought past their primes find new currency with younger, cooler fans. Those collaborations led to new records and critical reassessments. ![]() Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson all got calls from Rick Rubin or Jack White or Daniel Lanois. WHERE IS THE late-career renaissance of Clyde Jackson Browne? Shouldn’t he have had one of those by now? For a songwriter his age - Browne will turn 66 in October - the late-career surge has practically become a rite of passage. ![]() You can find and download stock imagery of healthy food options such as fruit and vegetables close-up shots of salads and healthy grains and healthy eating infographics. ![]() We work in 123 countries and territories, combining emergency assistance with long-term development while adapting our activities to the context and challenges of each location and its people. McVey - believing she was going to die - made a concentrated effort to leave as much physical evidence as she could to help ensure that Long would be proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. It was by her sheer wits and tenacity that she was able to not only escape with her life, but in the process she mentally gathered and retained enough information to help catch Long and lock him away for good. Each change took a monumental amount of effort and time, delaying work on additional features. To do this we redesigned the core gameplay several times. In an effort to salvage the project we attempted to address the primary problems with the game. ![]() However, this greatly damaged company morale, further slowing development speed and progress, which was already slow from the platform we were using. It would have also made more money which would have been put towards development.ĭue to our mistakes, player feedback was understandably negative. Had we made the game free to play, it would have been more acceptable to our audience. We wanted to try a new monetization model, but doing so with Clicker Heroes 2 was not a wise decision. We even received more than a few death threats. It felt especially offensive to the players who were expecting a complete game. The initial price was too high for many players, but even when we lowered it later on, and had significant sales, the price was always the biggest problem for the players when they reviewed it. Mistake #4: We charged money for a sequel to a free game. Many players simply bought the sequel without any research, expecting a finished game (for an idle game – this means “infinite” content), and they were terribly disappointed. Some who purchased it didn’t know what “Early Access” meant, and it was their first time installing Steam. ![]() We should have realized that many players would assume the product was complete before they bought it. It had a few days worth of content at the time we launched it. However, especially considering the game was a sequel, we vastly underestimated how complete the game needed to be for Early Access. We like developing games with a community, and we had felt we had kept the game behind the scenes for long enough and wanted to get real player feedback to validate our game design. Mistake #3: We underestimated how complete the sequel needed to be to launch in Steam Early Access.īefore launch, we were very excited to get the game out to the community so we could start interacting with them and getting feedback. A lot of the new game mechanics were risky decisions, which in the end, turned out to be the wrong choices for our audience. ![]() For many players, Clicker Heroes 2 doesn’t resemble Clicker Heroes 1 enough. We did what we felt would be fun, but it is likely we went a little bit too far. When designing it, we weren’t sure how novel we should get. Mistake #2: Clicker Heroes 2 was too different from Clicker Heroes 1. This noticeably slowed down our development, in part because maintaining CH1 (which is also Flash) took up more of our time than we expected, and CH2 became increasingly difficult to develop. Many high quality development tools that most developers take for granted on other platforms (like Unity or Unreal) just weren’t available for us. We should have started from scratch, with a new platform, or we should have kept the scope as small as we initially planned for.Ī few years later, with a rapidly declining community of Flash game developers, modern tools and supporting products became difficult to find. In retrospect, continuing the larger scope of development with Flash was our biggest hurdle, and possibly our biggest mistake. But we kept with Flash, because we had a reasonable prototype. We could have started over from scratch, once we realized the scope needed to change. We hired some developers and grew the scope of the project. So we decided to spend a lot more effort on the sequel. It slowly became more clear to us that we had big shoes to fill, and that it would be a challenge for us to live up to expectations. Once we launched CH1 on Steam, we realized how massive the audience would be, and how much revenue we were going to make from the project. At this time, Flash was still a popular development platform for games on the web. For those who aren’t familiar with it, CH1 was written entirely with Adobe Flash. Our ambitions with CH2 were similarly small, and we used CH1 as the project base. At the time, Clicker Heroes 1 (CH1) was still a relatively small, unknown project. In 2014, when we began work on CH2, the idle game genre was still in its infancy. We are outlining a series of mistakes we made and learned from, and hope our players can forgive us. At release it was the result of 3 years of hard work by a small team of talented developers, designers, and artists.Ĭurrently, the game is not in a state that we are very happy with, and this is mostly a post about what went wrong. Clicker Heroes 2 (CH2) is an idle game that we released in Steam Early Access on July 16th, 2018. Fifa 14 free download crack for windows, Abelian varieties mumford pdf merge. ![]()
These new platforms are able to generate large quantities of data in short periods of time, but until methods were developed for de novo assembly of large genomes from short read sequences, Sanger sequencing remained the standard method of creating a reference genome. Most high-throughput, next generation sequencing platforms produce shorter read lengths compared to Sanger sequencing. Scaffolding and next generation sequencing They concluded that the ALLPATHS-LG and SPAdes algorithms were superior to other assemblers in terms of the number of, maximum length of, and N50 length of contigs and scaffolds. investigated the utility of several different assembly software packages in combination with hybrid sequence data. A standalone program, GapFiller, is capable of closing a larger amount of gaps, using less memory than gap filling algorithms contained within assembly programs. Some software, like ABySS and SOAPdenovo, contain gap filling algorithms which, although they do not create any new scaffolds, serve to decrease the gap length between contigs of individual scaffolds. ALLMAPS is the first of such programs and is capable of combining data from genetic maps, created using SNPs or recombination data, with physical maps such as optical or synteny maps. In recent years, there has been an advent of new kinds of assemblers capable of integrating linkage data from multiple types of linkage maps. SSPACE is the most commonly cited assembly tool in biology publications, likely due to the fact that it is rated as a significantly more intuitive program to install and run than other assemblers. SSPACE also uses a greedy algorithm that begins building its first scaffold with the longest contig provided by the sequence data. The algorithm used by Bambus 2 removes repetitive contigs before orienting and ordering them into scaffolds. Bambus uses a greedy algorithm, defined as such because it joins together contigs with the most links first. Algorithms can be further classified as greedy, non greedy, conservative, or non conservative. ![]() Graph based applications have the capacity to order and orient over 10,000 markers, compared to the maximum 3000 markers capable of iterative marker applications. Īlgorithms used by assembly software are very diverse, and can be classified as based on iterative marker ordering, or graph based. This software also allowed for optional use of other linking data, such as contig order in a reference genome. Bambus was created in 2003 and was a rewrite of the original grouper software, but afforded researchers the ability to adjust scaffolding parameters. After the Human Genome Project and Celera proved that it was possible to create a large draft genome, several other similar programs were created. Until 2001, this was the only scaffolding software. The success of this strategy prompted the creation of the software, Grouper, which was included in genome assemblers. That project generated a total of 140 contigs, which were oriented and linked using paired end reads. The sequencing of the Haemophilus influenzae genome marked the advent of scaffolding. This can be done using either optical mapping or mate-pair sequencing. ![]() The next step is to then bridge the gaps between these contigs to create a scaffold. When creating a draft genome, individual reads of DNA are second assembled into contigs, which, by the nature of their assembly, have gaps between them. The sequences that are linked are typically contiguous sequences corresponding to read overlaps. Link together a non-contiguous series of genomic sequences into a scaffold, consisting of sequences separated by gaps of known length. Scaffolding is a technique used in bioinformatics. |
